with a separate brine/salt tank. Microprocessor
based units measure your water consumption,
and regenerate only as required. Sometimes
referred to as a demand water softener, these
softeners measure water consumption using a

electronic sensor detects the rate of turbine
spin and sends a signal to the on-board computer
control. Using parameters that are pre-set
by the user (capacity, water hardness, etc.),

Autotrol Turbulator
A distributor is the riser tube that is located in the center of the ion-exchange resin bed. With a standard design, water passes down through the resin and up through the distributor during the water softening process.
A turbulator can replace a standard riser tube in most "down-flow" designed water softeners. A turbulator physically moves the resin from the bottom of the bed to the top, stirring up the resin to increase sediment removal and conditioner efficiency. Using a water-stream compression device, a turbulator propels resin beads at high speed to the top of the resin bed, then allows them to settle back to the bottom. Small sediment that may have accumulated in the bed (like dirt or iron) are scrubbed from the resin beads and washed to the drain. So the bed is constantly turned over and reclassified. The result? Resin beds stay cleaner and last longer!
Turbulators are not used in 64,000 grain capacity softeners, up-flow (counter-current) softeners, high-flow 1.25 inch softeners, and twin-tank water softener designs. Turbulators are standard on all CAI down-flow water softener designs.

TWIN TANK WATER SOFTENERS
Twin tank water softeners have two resin tanks and
a separate salt/brine tank. Twin tank units are always
metered (demand), using either an electro-mechanical
metering system, or computer based microprocessor
meter. Twin tank systems always have a fully regenerated
tank available on standby, and deliver uninterrupted
24 hour supply of softened water. During regeneration,
water is first passed thru the online tank before
entering the tank undergoing regeneration - regeneration
using this pre-treated water helps clean the system
and extends the water softener lifetime.

TIME CLOCK BASED WATER SOFTENERS
Time clock water softeners are different from metered
water softeners, as they regenerate on a calendar
basis. They do not measure water consumption, and
only regenerate on the day-of-the-week as set by
the user. An electrical motor automatically initiates
the regeneration process as the time setting is reached.
